Tai Paddles has grown from Conan's passion for building, design and understanding how things work, along with Conan and Lana's love of waka ama.
Conan, originally from Pawarenga in the Hokianga, has a lifelong involvement with waka ama in NZ. Conan worked school holidays at the Moananui workshop in Tutukaka for the Kjeldsen family. After leaving school, he worked building paddles for Moananui. In 2003 -2005 Conan studied systems engineering at Massey University and this ignited his passion for designing products. Lana hails from Raglan and started paddling mid 1990’s when Hoturoa and Kim Barclay Kerr began coaching some local Raglan girls.
In late 2006 Conan and Lana established Tai Paddles in Raglan. Tai Paddles has grown from a small one person business into one of NZs biggest Waka Ama / outrigger canoe paddle manufacturing companies.
